I’m Alex Knepper. I’m a 25-year-old aspiring ‘public intellectual’ of sorts. From a very young age, I have been in love with politics, philosophy, and pop culture, and I have never been shy about sharing my opinions with the public. I recently earned my Master’s Degree in Liberal Arts from St. John’s College – Annapolis, the nation’s premier ‘Great Books’ college, and hold a B.A. in Political Science from American University. I am gay, a deist of sorts, and a political Independent (former Republican).
I have blogged off and on for the Huffington Post and Race42016.com. I have also written for the Republican Reason Caucus blog, and have contributed to a number of websites across the political spectrum, including LibertyNews.com, the Norwegian Human Rights Service, and FrumForum.com. I have been featured by a number of national outlets, including the New York Times and NPR. I am very active on Facebook; less so on Twitter. I’m also on LinkedIn. My Master’s Essay (thesis) for St. John’s College was about Plato’s Republic; the paper earned the distinction of being one of the Top 2% viewed papers during the month it was published at academia.edu.
I have written about a mix of topics — politics, philosophy, foreign policy, psychology, sexuality, music, and pop culture. I promote a new wave of moderate politics — one characterized not by ‘striking a middle ground’ but by moderation in the ancient sense of the term: an aversion toward excess — the prudent balancing of the tensions inherent in any society. In general, I stand for social tolerance, fiscal prudence, and global American leadership. I enjoy taking a contrarian posture and am frequently willing to say what others won’t. I have looked both prescient and foolish at times. I regret some of the things I’ve said, of course, but I long ago gave myself permission to live a free and natural life, and I am determined to stay true to that decision.
Right now, I’m mostly looking to find full-time work, preferably in the DC area. My secondary focus this year will be my new web magazine, the New American Perspective, which will launch in the first quarter of 2016. I also plan to begin work on a book in the near future, probably about philosophy and political theory.
I’m also the world’s biggest Britney Spears fan.
